Our experienced occupational therapists treat chronic pain conditions such as chronic pelvic pain, shoulder pain, fibromyalgia, or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment to understand why the pain persists, followed by goal setting before any therapy commences. Occupational therapists employ targeted approaches such as values clarification, desensitisation, graded exposure, activity pacing, sensory modulation, and stress management to facilitate meaningful living.
Characterised by profound tiredness that doesn’t go away with rest, chronic fatigue is a feature of many conditions such as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), Long COVID, and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Diagnosis usually occurs after six months of unrelenting symptoms, which can include insomnia, extreme tiredness, memory loss, reduced concentration, headaches, orthostatic intolerance, and muscle and joint pains. Treatment includes energy-building strategies for sleep, rest, and activity levels, as well as managing stress and post-exercise malaise (PEM).
Our occupational therapists provide Functional Capacity Assessments, NDIS access assessments, home visits and assessments for assistive technology and equipment, and treatment provision for chronic and complex pain, fatigue, neurological, and psychosocial disabilities.
We conduct home visits to assess the home environment for safety, falls prevention, and the need for assistive technology and equipment. This service is provided for elders and individuals with disabilities who wish to continue living independently at home.
Next Wave occupational therapists support women as their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs change throughout life. This encompasses a range of therapies used to treat soft tissue injuries, pain, and stiffness. Myofascial trigger point release is utilised to treat contracted muscles, restore normal movement, and help your body heal. Massage is employed to reduce tension and pain in your joints, muscles, and tissues. An occupational therapy approach also assesses the contributing factors to pain or muscle injury, which can include stress, poor sleep, improper positioning, nutritional status, and activity levels.
At Next Wave Therapy, we also provide mental health occupational therapy for our patients for those struggling with mental health concerns, including stress, anxiety and depression to understand their situation, improve coping skills and enhance quality of life.

A doctor’s referral is generally not required unless your condition is associated with Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Injury, Veterans Affairs, or a Medicare Mental Health Care plan. In most cases, you can directly schedule an appointment since all our physiotherapists are primary contact practitioners capable of providing comprehensive care without a referral.
To access occupational therapy services through Medicare, you must have a referral from your GP under the Chronic Disease Management Plan (EPC) or a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). This plan is necessary for Medicare coverage when seeing an occupational therapist. For more information on eligibility and how to claim, refer to our schedule of fees explaining how Medicare can be used for occupational therapy.
